Licence Terms — Asteris for WordPress
Asteris for WordPress is GPL-2.0+ software. All tiers — Free, Starter, Pro, Agency — use the same open-source licence. The differences between tiers are commercial (site activation limits + support SLA), not legal.
GPL-2.0+ licence
The Asteris for WordPress plugin code is distributed under the GNU General Public License version 2.0 or later. This means:
- You can use the software on any site within your tier’s activation limit
- You can modify the code for your own use
- If you distribute modified versions, you must do so under GPL-2.0+
- The licence does not restrict your commercial use of the software (you can use Asteris for WordPress on a client’s commercial site)
The GPL licence covers the plugin software. It does not cover access to updates, priority support, or future modules — those are commercial services attached to your active subscription.
Site activation limits per tier
| Tier | Production-site activations |
|---|---|
| Asteris for WordPress Free (WordPress.org) | Unlimited (GPL — no licence-key restriction) |
| Asteris Starter | 1 |
| Asteris Pro | 3 |
| Asteris Agency | 10 |
Founder cohort. Being a Founder is a cohort identity, not a separate SKU — the first 500 launch subscribers across the Starter, Pro, and Agency tiers lock the launch price for the life of their subscription. Site activation limits follow the tier they subscribed at (1 / 3 / 10).
What counts as a site. A production site is a publicly accessible domain where Asteris for WordPress serves real traffic. A local development environment, a staging subdomain (e.g. staging.yourdomain.com), or a CI sandbox for the same project does NOT count as a separate activation — the licence applies to the production site and its parallel non-production environments.
Multisite networks. Asteris for WordPress is not officially supported on WordPress Multisite at v1.0. Multisite support is on the v1.x roadmap. Using a single-site licence on a Multisite installation is outside the supported scope until then.
Transferring a licence
You can move a licence to a different domain within your site-activation limit at no cost. Email [email protected] with the old and new domain. Processed within 1 business day.
Licences are not transferable to a different person or business entity. Selling, gifting, or transferring a paid licence to someone outside the original purchasing entity is a licence violation. We reserve the right to revoke licences found to have been transferred to third parties.
When a subscription lapses
If you let your subscription lapse (cancel, or fail to pay a renewal):
- Asteris for WordPress continues to function on your site (the GPL code doesn’t disappear)
- You stop receiving plugin updates
- You stop receiving security patches
- You lose access to the customer download portal
- Your priority support access ends
To resume updates and support, resubscribe via the customer portal. Resubscribing after a lapse re-enters you at the then-current regular price — Founder-cohort launch-locked pricing is conditional on continuous subscription.
Developer + agency rights
As a developer using Asteris for WordPress on client sites:
- Asteris for WordPress Free: No restriction. GPL applies. Use it on any client site.
- Asteris Starter (1 site): Single-site use only.
- Asteris Pro (3 sites): Install on up to 3 production sites under one licence.
- Asteris Agency (10 sites): Install on up to 10 production sites you actively manage.
- End-of-engagement transfer: When you hand a site over to a client to self-manage, they need their own licence to continue receiving updates and support. The Agency tier doesn’t extend to clients who self-manage the plugin after a build is complete — they would need their own tier of Asteris.
- Reselling: You cannot resell Asteris for WordPress licences or bundle them into your own product offering. Bundle pricing for agencies is available — contact support@.
Refunds
14-day money-back guarantee on every paid tier. See Refund Policy for full terms.
Founder cohort — duration
The Founder cohort price is locked for the life of the subscription. It is not a one-time “paid forever” lifetime SKU. As long as the subscription stays continuously active, the locked launch price applies. Cancellation followed by later resubscription means re-entering at the then-current regular price.
If My Cosmic Message Pty Ltd t/a Asteris Commerce were to cease operations, the GPL licence means you retain the right to continue using the Asteris for WordPress version you last downloaded. New modules, updates, and support would also cease. We have no plans to cease operating; this clause is included for transparency.
